The Medieval Spirit of Transylvania

The fortified churches are an unique phenomenon in Europe. They can only be found in some parts of Europe, while in Transylvania there have been more than 300 fortified German churches due to the danger represented by possible Turkish and Tartar invasions. Another representative aspect is the mixture of architectural styles. The tourist can observe on the same monument influences ranging from Romanic to Late Gothic styles. Some of them have disappeared, some are due to disappear, while most of them still exist in remote villages. However, seven of them have had a better fate and have been enlisted on the UNESCO heritage list.

We invite you to spend a holiday in the heart of Transylvania, experiencing a place of history, living traditions and fairytale landscapes.

MARAMURES - A dream place frozen in time

The Carpathian Mountains, arch around Transylvania and with its rocky or gentle ridges, create something that looks more like a defense wall for an area where time stood still. The villages are hidden between winding hills, dominated by wooden churches that on one side reflect the oriental influences and on the other side have the silhouette of gothic cathedrals. These monuments, built entirely out of wood, are decorated with traditional motifs created by craftsmen that have been passing their skills from father to son, thus keeping alive this techniques for centuries.

Ceahlau Mountains - the Olympus of Romanians

Stretched across the country, there are no mountains that gave rise to so many stories and legends like Ceahlau Mountains. Fame lies not only in the detailed architecture of the stones which has stirred people's imagination, but also through its imposing appearance being as a headlight seen from a distance. Toaca Peak-like an Egyptian pyramid is a proof of perfect symmetry, while Ocolasul Mare although, the highest one, is leaning humble towards Toaca peak. The local people are carrying on the legends and stories about the ancient Dacian Gods and evil spirits. On our hikes we will see these legends become alive through the panoramic views, the cliffs with strange shape, the waterfalls, the lakes, and the monasteries. The spirit and the peace that overwhelm these mountains will cut their way into your minds in the days that you will spend on these lands.
